Day 30 of Chloe Being Home (February 1, 2002) Chloe saw the lung doctor today and he took her off of the Apnea monitor. Cheryl and I had no idea of the freedom that this will give us. For the first time, we can take Chloe without having to lug equipment around and worrying about pulling probes on her body. Chloe is doing very well, she is now 8 lbs and 4 oz. which is almost 5 times more than she weighed when she was born. Chloe is also 20.5 inches long and growing. Mom is still working hard with Chloe's physical therapy and improvement is obvious. Dad is finally back into the healthy status.

Day 33 of Chloe Being Home (February 4, 2002) Chloe is making a lot baby normal human sounds like vowel sounds which is very good to hear. Cheryl has started working with Chloe, teaching her vowel sounds and only time will tell if that will help Chloe grow up to be an Orator. In the mean time it is good hearing other noises than the crying sound. Since the Apnea monitor has been removed from Chloe on Friday (Day 30 -- Feb. 1, 2002) Chloe's quality of life has dramatically improved. It does not seem like such a piece of equipment would prevent so much interaction with a baby, but it does. The fear of it going off all of the time by the leads being pulled limits what the parent does carrying it. Things such as feedings and diaper changing causes us to have the same amount of worry for the Apnea monitor leads being disconnected. We kept Chloe in her bed room for most of the time, thus she would feel left out of the family activities.

Day 34 of Chloe Being Home (February 5, 2002) Chloe
is now starting to master simple abilities such as using her hands and
arms to try and pull her self up. She is also has developed hand eye
coordination so that she can deliberately grab and touch objects within
her grasp. These are important developmental traits which we are
happy to see. They are a few months behind developmentally for
Chloe's age, but we must remember that Chloe was born 1 lb. 11.4 oz. which
means that she will be behind for quite some time now.
Cheryl is still working a lot of hours with Chloe as sort of a physical therapist, and it is paying off. Chloe is now drinking/eating 3 oz. of formula and is enjoying life.

Day 37 of Chloe Being Home (February 8, 2002) Chloe had a good and bad visit with the doctor. The good is that the doctor is very pleased with how well Chloe is growing. She seems to be about one to two months behind developmentally, which for a preemie is very good. Chloe was also taken off another one of those medicines and for that we are extremely happy. The bad was the fact that Chloe needed to have four shots ;two in each leg. She hated that with a passion and was in pain most of the day. She also needed a blood sample for the state of Virginia, which bothers me some extent. Chloe now weighs 9 lbs and 20.5 inches long. She is doing very well.

Day 38 of Chloe Being Home (February 9, 2002) This day was Chloe's first day out with the stroller. Mom and dad took Chloe around the block so to speak and Chloe slept through the entire trip. Every 200 feet mom would stop the stroller and inspect Chloe's clothing and her position. It's a mom thing ; dad just pushed the stroller up and down the hill.

Day 39 of Chloe Being Home (February 10, 2002) Dad went to church this morning, which was the first time he went since December. Unfortunately Chloe and mom had to stay home, because Chloe is in preemie isolation until the Dr's. give us the green light. It will be great when Chloe can go to Church and other activities.

Day 40 of Chloe Being Home (February 11, 2002) Chloe is
now playing the "Stick Your Tongue at Each Other." Chloe will
stick her tongue out at the person holding her and when the person holding
her sticks their tongue at Chloe she will repeat the process and then
start laughing. This works the other way as well, when mom or dad starts
the tongue process she follows as well.
It is good to see Chloe grow cognitively. We both look forward to the day when she learns to speak -- even though other tell us to be patient. |

Day 44 of Chloe Being Home (February 15, 2002) Chloe had another doctor appointment and the doctor gave Chloe an electrolyte test to see if we can get rid of the Sodium Chloride (Salt Water). There wasn't much to the medical examine other than the routine look at Chloe. Both of our doctors feel that Chloe is doing very well and they showed us how happy they are to see Chloe's progress. Chloe's days are mostly routine, she cries when she wants food, restroom duty, attention or just to hear herself. Every single day is full of supprises. She is speaking baby talk and smiling all of the time. It is just like we have a normal child and in many ways she is.

Day 49 of Chloe Being Home (February 20, 2002) We got the lab results back from the doctors office. Chloe's electrolytes are fine so the doctor told us to stop giving her the Sodium Chloried. There was much rejoicing in the Lewis' household, because it takes time giving her her medicine and the bottle was really low (renewing prescription was not an option).

Day 50 of Chloe Being Home (February 21, 2002) Today we got the Hospital bill for Chloe. I have never seen numbers so large with my name associated with it. All I can say is I will never complain about or be late on my insurance premium again. |
